Thanks a pile Ryan!!! i'll be putting that on my calender to try and get to. meanwhile, my wife is peeing herself laughing at me and my current fantasy...
I would personally love to get a JD, just cause we grew up around them and whatnot, but one of those fords would be neat too. I like all that old iron, and the lower cost to restore is a definate bonus!
The nice thing bout tractors is it takes very little time effort and money (compared to trucks and cars) to get one looking and driving good
thats pretty much my selling feature right now... i'm feeling the need to turn a wrench and tinker with something, but the empty feeling in my wallet from my '83 leaves me looking for something a little more economical to play with...
thats true prep... in some cases its so much easier to shell out a bit of extra cash than fiddle and fart around with someone elses junk. it was a good experience, and i'll likely do it again, but for now i'd like to find something a little cheaper to play with.
Before I bought my Ford 800 tractor I was looking at a 2N, basically like an 8N, and for only $700 more I think I got twice the tractor plus live PTO. Too bad it`s still 6 V, while it starts good the only bummer is the 6V lights are abit harder to find.
well, i have a line on a 8n... the JD dealer where my FIL works bought out a small garage place and they had one that they used to clear snow in the winter time. its a little rusted, but it's supposed to run well. they want 2500 for it, but they never directly paid for it, so they said for me to make an offer. i'm thinking way lowball...have to think about it.
Unless that 8N in excellent shape, nice paint, newer rubber and all that good stuff I`d start at around $1,200-$1,500 and see what happens. You can never pay too little and like Ryan says sometimes they sometimes, though not all that often, go fairly cheap at auctions........
FIL told me to offer in the 1000 range. thats about all i'm willing to spend on it. preferably less. i'm going to take a look at it, but i'd almost rather look through some auctions and find something cheaper, even if its not running, they're pretty simple units and i should be able to get one running!!
