Fuel pump filter?
1999 Ford F250 7.3L powerstroke - Is there a filter or screen between the fuel tank and the electric pump?

Inside the fuel tank is a pair of mixing screens which may become clogged. Below that is a coarse screen on the bottom of the pick up tube.
If you do the Hutch mod you will get rid of those pesky mixing screens. You can put a vac gauge between the tank and fuel pump to determine if the screens are clogged.

Yes. Right at the pump's inlet. This is in addition to the screens mentioned above.

Thank you to both answers!! Can you point me to the Hutch mod? I did a search and come up with hundreds of hits but I still can't find it.

I didn't know there was anything at the pump inlet. Is it actually in the orifice and only accessed by removing the fuel line?

Yeah, it's just a screen at the pump inlet. Not a filter per se.

Is it best to remove the screen to prevent a problem? If so, do I just remove the fuel line from the pump and pull the screen out with a pick?
I'm not too worried about any trash getting into the pump as I have a Dahl pre-filter.
I'll be playing under the truck tomorrow anyway, dropping the tank to replace the fuel sender

It's part of the pump, there's no way to remove it unless you wanted to try to drill it out.
