I was just reading the post on the sticking 'door ajar' switches and it reminded me of an issue I've been having with my truck and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
The latches for the rear hatch are outside of the hatch seal which leaves them unprotected from accumulating dust and dirt in the latch mechanism. Of course, spraying a lubricant only makes the situation worse in the long run by attracting more dust and dirt.
Does anyone have a viable solution for this obvious design flaw? It feels sometimes like I'm going to snap the hatch handle off when trying to pull the hatch free.
Firstly I would suggest pulling the latch and giving it a good cleaning since it's so difficult to actuate. Probably the easiest thing to do is get some styrofoam (say from an old cooler or such), cut it to create a box and caulk it to the door.
Thats why I have been looking at using a windshield gasket to go around the rear glass door. The only problem that is stopping me at this point is the bottom of the door where the plastic pc is. There is no way to get the gasket to go around the bottom and still seal onto the barn doors. Just no point in getting the upper part and not going all around the door.
