Rear Hatch not locking
The rear hatch is not locking. I experienced all of the doors not locking over the years, but I heard this was a notorious problem. I replaced the door actuators, and they work fine now. Anyway, when I replaced the one in the hatch, it didn't fix the problem. As it turns out, the latch (keylock) that the motor goes into, is super hard to actuate. I think over time, the motor got weak. I've sprayed lubricants all over, and it doesn't help it. It's very hard to move the latch even with my fingers. I can manually actuate it with the key as well, but I swear, the key will break soon.
So, any reason this would be so difficult to operate? The new motor can barely turn it, so I'm wondering if I need to replace it. From Ford, it's $200+. If anyone can recommend a way to relieve some friction, that'd be great. Otherwise, I think I'll just have to bite the bullet. Just seems pricey.
My only advice is that you take a good look (maybe even a picture) of exactly how it fits and EXACTLY how you slide it out of the rear liftgate shell. For me, it slid out really easily, but I spend the better part of half an hour to figure exactly how I had to slide it in to make it go back into its spot. Just trying to save you a headache
