looking for opinions on Royal Purple or other full synthetic tranny fluids

Hello-
I am getting ready for my 60k service and was wondering what people thought about Royal Purple. Seems I have heard good stuff on here about it. My local NAPA has it on sale for $8.93/quart on an employee price sale this evening. I am trying to decide between it and Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic or any other highly recommended full synthetics. If you have a recommendation for any fluid, could you also tell me why you like it or use it?

The next question is the truck has 60k on it and has used factory fluids for the tranny since day 1. I have heard from some people that with that many miles it would be best to stay with factory fluids because of seals and other reasons. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. The truck has been serviced per factory recommendations, including tranny at 30k. Also, I am not planning on doing the filter as it doesn't sound like a that is a problem with a properly maintained truck and is only suggested if you pull the pan to install a valve body or something else.

THANKS a bunch!!

Brian

In my readings about royal purple, from what I understand, its the only synthetic that they say, you can add any kind of oil to, in an emergency situation, and not have a problem. Its recomended not to prolong the use of the mixture, but its an acceptable short term fix. Thats why I run it, in the tranny, diffs, and maybe someday in the Tcase. I just run regular ATF in the tcase. RP is a little pricey, but I think worth it. Seems enough people use it, and in high HP applications, such as drag racing and such.

My suggestion to all of you is to call BTS and ask them why they run schaeffer's they will glad to tell you why. Also ask them about Royal Purple in the trannies. Their is a reason why people like BTS and DP TUNER run Schaeffers when they have their choice at everything else on the market.

One other thing, it is never to late to switch to a synthetic.

thanks for the input Jamie. Didn't know that DP also recommends the Schaeffers. 2 recommendations are better than one.

I put in Mobil1, but would run Schaeffer's in a heartbeat. Valvoline was about a $1.50 a quart cheaper than Mobil1 when I did mine, but I was kind of bent on using Mobil1. I've used it in many trannys, and always had GREAT experiences with it. Also, whatever you get, buy 2 or 3 extra quarts and flush your PS pump with it, too. It's an easy thing to do while you're there....

Dont forget the transfer case too. I probably should back up a little. DP Tuner may or may not recommend it, but they were a dealer when they were in NC.

okay, so the other question I forgot to ask was how adding a little fluid at a time flushes the old junk out without mixing in. at the price I'm paying per quart, I want all the old out with very little of the new wasted. How does it flush without mixing together?

Because you drain the pan, then refill it with new. When the new stuff pushes through the system, it will mix a little at the point where the new meets the old, but that's why you use an extra quart or two. The old comes out the cooler line, and once you get all that pushed out, you top off and there you have it....

Use Mercon V synthetic and don't look back. No additives! I use Valvoline full synthetic in my tranny, shifts great, and very acceptable temps, I also have a Napa ULTRA cool tranny cooler, its basically the same thing as the Tru-Cool that most people on here have

If you've found it locally, go for the Schaeffer's. Like Jamie said, there's a good reason that BTS chooses to run it in their transmissions, and DP-Tuner also chooses to run the Schaeffer's products.
