fuel heater
The truck has made three trips to the dealer for this issue. The first trip they couldn't come up with a reason other then giving me a bottle of Motorcraft Anti-Gel. A week later and a second trip to the dealer, they replaced the HFCM. When the turbo dropped out a week and a half after that, I was running 16 ounces of DK and the temps were around 5 above zero. The truck even stalled. Any of these times when the turbo would drop out on me, I wouldn't get close to 20 pounds of boost. If the truck was turned off and restarted, everything would go back to normal as long as I wasn't traveling at highway speeds or carrying a heavy load other wise I'd lose it again. After the third visit, the dealer did nothing except tell me it had to be fuel related. I always put in Citgo fuel from stations that are always moving fuel. The small ma and pa stations with diesel scare me.
I talked with a diesel tech from another dealer and he's against the Morotcraft Anti-Gel. Maybe it's because it will solidify in the bottle around 32 degrees. He pushes the DK white bottle and DK 911. He confirmed what I was told by another person that the bio-diesel mix is the culprit. All the Citgo's that I fuel up at have a blue sticker on the pump stating between 5 - 20% of bio-diesel or biomass has been mixed with the fuel. So far, I've only found three stations that don't mix in bio-diesel. I found a BP, but another BP that sells diesel which is about 25 miles away from the other, has the sticker stating 6 - 20% mixed in the fuel. I found a Marathon that doesn't have the mix, but yet two other Marathon's I've visited has mixed fuel. The third is Mobil on the tollway oasis. I haven't checked any other Mobil's yet.
Quite the learning experience with the Ford diesels that don't have any filter heating elements from this cold snap that has been absent here in over 13 years. My '04 6.0 had no problems whatsoever, but my '07 6.0 had troubles at high speeds...missing..chugging...lack of power. I'm seriously thinking about buying a '03 - '04 HFCM and installing it in the '07 truck and hard wiring a switch to power the heating element during cold weather.
