I can't disagree with the fact that spending that kind of money on a grill shell is outrageous. It almost is INSANE. I never thought I'd be restoring my truck to the degree it is being restored, but after I reached a certain point, I couldn't turn back. I looked almost two years in my local areas for a really nice Grill Shell and never could find one without something major wrong with it. I always seen a few on Ebay, but for the price and cost of shipping, I could spend a little more and get a new one. In other areas I'm sure these things are a dime a dozen and you don't have to pay much for them. I've been burnt before on "appearance items" of classifieds and ebay. Descriptions saying "great condition" or "almost like new" come up and then I get the product and it's crap. Most grills you see in the classifieds and ebay are going for alot of money and I'd hate to spend that kind of money on something I can't see myself and risk the possibility of getting burnt. I can handle $20 or so if an item isn't what I want, but over $200 to $300, that's much more to swallow. Oh well, I guess I don't see it as insane than someone paying a crapload for lighted sunvisors or NOS towing hooks.

Has anyone ever attempted to "restore" the grille they have? I started by taking out some of the dings I had in mine, and I have been researching, and I think I may give it a shot. If there is anyone that has tried, please give input to success failure, to do, not to do. Thanks!

Restoring a slightly dinged or tweaked grill isn't a real big deal.....Go slow with the pick and dolly. There's some hand planishing involved to smooth out the burrs from the dolly work and the then the polishing. I use a 3" buffing wheel withe white rouge on an air die grinder. I also just picked a new surround up off of Ebay for $160 plus shipping. Not bad, but it needs polishing before it'll get installed.
