Ok, because I seem to have some slop in steering and have this darn wandering issue, especially when I haul my camper. I hate it. I don't have the money to change out all these parts these guys are talking about.

The thread I listed in post 169 might help with the wandering issues.

The thread I listed in post 174 is how I did the power steering flush.

Those are good starting places. It may be enough for you. Hopefully it will be.

Other things to consider with wandering issues. A set of good shocks will do wonders. Bilsteins are expensive, but are worth the money. Do you max out the air pressure in your tires when towing? Do you have D or E rated tires? How heavy is the camper? While these are things that can certainly help, making sure that the front end is mechanically sound is first and foremost important. Check the bushings in the sway bars.

I did it, the suction gun worked good. There may have already been ATF in there, it was hard to tell, it looked brownish. I will see if there is any diff when I go camping this weekend.
Also, I have E rated? 10 ply. I was told to keep 80lbs in them when hauling camper, which dry weight is 2390. I also heard to put LESS pressure in front tires, not sure if I should, I'm going camping with camper FRI after work. I did stop by my brake/alignment friend, even though I tried to tell him that there seemed to be 100 people with same story about wandering, he wants to look at it first, if the alignment is barely off with these trucks, he said it will wander, so next week I have an appt to check tightness of suspension and alignment.

Well I did get some help. What I ended up doing was tightening my bolt. It helped a little, still have some wander so I am thinking I need an alignment. I am going to look and make sure that I have transmission fluid in my power stering. When I had bought the truck they just flushed the system, and I have no idea what they used.

Alignment, tire wear and tire pressure. Then start looking for anything loose in the front end along with too much freeplay in the steering box.

Guys, how about camber and caster adjustments? My 2002 with 225k has some steering slop but. An alignment the other day showed the following a lot of negative camber in the left front.

Could this add to wandering? Has anyone used Specialty Products Company 24130 Adjustable Camber/Caster Sleeve for 4WD/RWD Vehicles?

Dude... after 11 yrs of my truck....

I can tell you a few things...
1. Wheel/hubs bearings
2. Ball joints
3. All the steering linkages

And maybe your steering box.. but check and replace all the other stuff first.

Don't buy cheap crap store brand stuff.. get brand name like moog. My last set of moog ball joints lasted me 7 yrs.

It's not the steering stabilizer...

Good luck..

Yes, 5* of caster helps.

Caster wedges between the leaf springs and axle is the key to fixing the wandering problem.

Done all that. Steering box is only thing I havent changed. I need to correct the camber before I proceed. Thanks Buster! You rock.

Maybe try adjusting the steering box. But dont over adjust it.. they can blow..

For what its worth.. my wandering was resolved. But it is coming back.. I have drivers side ball joint popping now.
