Coolant level just increased 3/4" - 1" in my degas bottle. It's been holding steady for 7 months when I changed it to Texaco ECL Diesel coolant (the good red stuff).
I couldn't tell if there was any oily film present. Didn't notice any above average residue around the cap.
Why did you go w/ the Havoline ECL coolant? From what I read, it is the same as the Zerex G05 and the Ford. Does it state that it meets the Motorcraft WSS-M97B51-A1 standard (or ASTM D 3306-00A)?
I'll need to look at the jugs when I get home. But I remember researching and choosing the best locally available diesel engine long life coolant that was nitrate free. The motorcraft stuff is generic that they formulate for all their vehicles.
If it helps, I remember reading that you do not want to mix coolant types either. So I went to great lengths (for me anyway) to drain as much coolant out of the engine as I could.
Update: After discovering my level was up, I drove 25 miles or so. Level was still up. I checked for oil film after letting it sit for 4 hours. I then drove another 25-30 miles and let it sit overnight. This morning level was back down between Min/Max.
Gremlins? Any ideas? I'll keep an eye on it regardless.
