For the tilt it definitely pushes away for it to tilt.
I'm not gonna argue over the tilt wheel jazz, I haven't owned a 70's truck since 1988, and the parts catalog illustrations don't show how it operates.

AlI I remember from the 60's T-Birds I've owned...you pulled, not pushed.

The truck tilt wheels ya pushed, at least that's what i want to remember.

If you look in the opening for the column, if you see a steel vertical bar directly behind the signal arm, you are a tilt wheel. If somebody trys to sell you a tilt wheel without that extra bar, ask for a demonstration.

You can still buy the tilt wheel parts from Ford as they are the exact same ones the 1970/79 cars used.

The CrownVics/Grand Marquis/Town Cars used the same parts thru the 1980's.

The locking lever (E2TZ3B661A [was DOAZ-A]-curved part with teeth) is the piece that usually fails.
