I have a 1976 Ford (model P-450)mini-schoolbus. I am trying to identify the transmission. I went to my local auto parts and looked at pan gaskets and the pan gasket tells me it is a C-6, but my manual says a C-6 requires Dextron 2 fluid. The dipstick ( a very unusual type dipstick because of the cab over type body) says use type F fluid. Which should I use?
The pan looks like a square with a rear corner cut out, and it has a 1,2,and drive on the shifter , Is this a C-6 or could it be a fmx.
I was sure it was a C-6, but the dipstick, that says use type f fluid, makes me wonder. As always thanks!
Steve83- Thanks for the sites, very informative. I am sure the tranny is a c-6, but still wonder why the dipstick says to use type F fluid. A man at the autoparts told me that the early C-6 's used type F, but I can't find anything to back his statement up. All my info says to use dextron 2. Any ideas on this?
Being in the 70's, it probably should take type F. Id be fien with using type F, if it wasnt meant for it, youll know when it shifts a bit firmer then before! Type F has friction modifier where as Dex doesnt.
