My friends truck has no power. With the pedal on the floor she dont wanna go. I think its leaky gaskets but he thinks maybe he needs a new turbo. I'm tryin to save the man some money. I told him if the turbo went bad it would be all at once not slowly dieing. And the truck wouldnt even want to run. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks
Does the engine even try to rev at all? The truck will run fine with a bad turbo it just won't have any power. But I doubt the turbo itself is an issue. I would bet its the EBPV stuck closed. Does the tail pipe sound like its hissing?
no the truck runs fine. no hissing. he uses it to haul cars. he said gaskets are bad and he said air to air is bad to??? i dont know what the air to air would be. maybe the boot comin up for the intake. but i suggested that since his gaskets are bad hes loosin boost. but it acts nothin like mine and i have bad gaskets. we were haulin trees one day an he had the pedal on the floor and she wouldnt go. its a 5 speed so he now has to downshift for hills when he didnt before
Clogged CAT converter will cause that also .. don't ask how I know.
Also check the MAP sensor hose for quality condition overall especially at the passenger intake where a lot of heat is generated.
ok here's the deal. he just told me some info he failed to leave out before. the turbo throws a little oil and he can move the EBPV with little effort. no what?
he said the truck hisses for a few when he starts it so he thought it was a leak. i explained how the EBPV works to him cause hes powerstroke eliterate and now he knows what that is. now as far as oil i aint to sure. i have to see to know but he makes it sound like it throws oil from the turbo itself. idk what he means whether its alot or just drips. i would have to go and take a peek at the patient
yay! scored a point...ahahahahahahaha...... so it sounds like the ebp valve is not sticking. what does the motor sound liek when he puts it on the floor and tries to take off? i am going to bet that it revs slowly, does not miss but has an odd sound, quiet for a powerstroke. you know, no loud cackly sound. i am also going to make a guess that there is no smoke from the tailpipe either. so if i am correct in all of this i am going to have to ask if it still has the cat on it for one, we never got to find that out. and then i have to ask when his last oil change was and if he does it regularly or if he lets it go a while.
Not to hijack this thread but I'm pretty sure my EBPV is having issues. It appears to stick in the closed? position ie no power higher egt's for longer than usual in cold wx, no boost as well. How do you trouble shoot it and can it be lubed or adjusted so it works properly? Recent cold snap has caused this to come up temps below 20F. Thanks guys.
