Anyone know what type of scan tool I would need to test the ABS system and the rest of the trucks systems? Looking for something that just gives me the codes is all I need. Is there a tool just for the Super Duty trucks? Looking for something reliable don’t need to buy one with all the extras bells and whistles what won’t be used. Don’t want to spend big bucks.
Any wed sites or specific brands so I can find the scan tool needed.
<O Thanks all!
I purchased software to use on my laptop from AutoEnginuity (it comes with the interface cord). The cost was $200. That included the enhanced Ford module that includes the powertrain, anti-lock brakes, air bags, security, and a couple of other systems. Everything needed. You can check out their web site. I happy with it.
I have the autoenginuity too, and it does work well. Not exactly super user friendly, but nothing really bad, just the usual inconsistencies/quirks you find with low-volume software apps.
But I think your price is off. I recall it was like $400+. But there are not many packages out there that read ALL codes. Most just read the basic OBD II codes and can't handle the manufacturer-specific codes. You say you have a diesel, so you will need something advanced like this software to get anything from it, as I understand it. But you'll pay for it. I beilieve the diesels cannot be read with simple cheap code readers. Easy way to find out is to go to an Autozone or other parts store that does free code reading and have them try it. Even if you have no codes, you'll find out if the reader connects or not.
This AutoEnginuity you speak of, does this read real time data, (RPM,s, coolant temp, boost pressure, etc.)? Alos, instead of using a laptop, will this setup work with a palm pilot? Any certain one they work with? I dont have one yet, but Im in the market... Thanks.
Don't let the manual for the Elm327 scare you. That's the manual for the actual chip and can get a little technical, but it does show all the capabilities of the chip. When you buy it in the monitor it comes with more hardware and easy to follow directions. It's really plug and play. For the $28 you really can't beat it.
I was amazed at the things it read, but I can't say positively that it read trans codes. I think it did though. It did go through a ton of other Ford codes etc and did a bunch of confirmations that things were working correctly. It read the speed sensor the tach etc. You could see all that info in real time as you drove down the road.
