If I had a truck valued at $20000 I sure and hell wouldn't sell it for $14000. Must be a lot of flood vehicles out there that people "THINK" they are getting a good deal on. Please tell me how great the truck is in a couple months after you fix all the problems that have yet to surface.
The reality is not how great of a deal you got but, how bad did I get screwed. Only time will tell.
Call your local salvage yard and ask the cost of a used engine or trans. Then you'll quickly see how great the deal was. Most of those low priced trucks are worth more for parts. Wonder Why????
If you are talking to me, in this economy all trucks are selling for far less than KKB suggested retail. I know for a fact that I got a very sound truck. This was a 4th vehicle for a doctor that only drove it for vacations. My family works at a Ford dealer and I had it looked over many times. Now If someone lived in snow cities or flooded cities then I would be worried but where I live, no worries.
The market is just plain junkf or sellers. This is a buyers market to the extreme for large SUV's. You will never sell one of these for near blue book prices anytime soon. I expect KBB pricing to drop noticably over the next few months/years. Go look at car dealers, no one is buying anything, my buddy just got a fully loaded 08 trailblazer SS AWD (3SS) for 27 out the door with 3 years of free oil changes and tire rotations and a full tank of premium. People are desperate to sell ANYTHING now, let alone a big thirsty SUV.
Bad part is, once prices drop like this, they are not going to recover. They will just sit at this level for a while then start to drop again. Your kidding yourself if you think the prices will rebound on these trucks. If you own one your stuck with it for a couple years or gonna take a big hit on it if you bought it a year or more ago. I would LOVE to trade my truck in for a trailblazer ss right now as my towing needs have changed some, but its just not financially advisable even with the TBSS going for so cheap brand new.
Any adjuster is gonna hate me for this comment, but the only way your gonna get around KBB pricing is if you have a very good insurance company and your vehicle is totalled somehow. You would make off liek a bandit if you bought one for what they are seling for now. (some insurance companys go by what the local market pricing for a similar vehicle is though so dont go off and do anything stupid lol)

With an oasis it isn't hard to figure out if you are buying a one owner vehicle.I was told the history and it checked out with fords records. One owner (Army major) that took better care of his truck than I do mine.I bought on E-Bay sight unseen in the flesh and no regrets it runs like a clock.

I also know where my vehicle came from, a DEA agent that lived in Pa and commuted into NYC. He used it twice a year to bring his horse's from FL to PA. That's why the mileage was so low. He traded it in for a GMC Suburban and I know his brother in laws neighbor through business. He told me what the dealer gave him for it in trade, it also was only on the dealers lot for 3 days. I gave the dealer a $100.00 profit, because they knew they would either have to wholesale it or sit on it and that was just when fuel prices were peaking in July-August.
KBB, Galves, NADA can take anywhere from 3-6 months to adjust for drastic changes in the market to compensate for values, as well as geographic locations, and they base their prices on vehicle auctions and what vehicles are selling for in general, the problem is they aren't selling that many to do the comparison.
If you get a clean Carfax and Oasis report and give it to a good mechanic if your not that experienced in determining the soundness and condition of a used vehicle, the market will drive the pricing of under valued vehicles.
Most people that buy gas vehicles that get 10 MPG when gas prices are nearly $4.00 a gallon will usually get a good deal. Like "1" said it's a buyers market.

Nope, I don't wonder why. Folks were scared to death that they were going to get stuck with an 11 mpg vehicle in times of $4.50 gas. The guy I bought mine off of said he thought he would never get rid of it, and he couldn't afford to put fuel in it. Of course my offer went even lower then

Have driven it over 10,000 miles, pulled the 30' trailer about 2,000 of those, and the flood waters haven't spilled out yet....

Please dude. Seriously, please tell you you don't REALLY believe this is the case.

I think Chip needs a hug!
Ok, humor aside, your conclusion that ALL of us got flood vehicles, and the vehicles will be junked in a couple months, is ridiculous.
I'm glad I didn't have to bring up the insurance issue. But that's my point, sell a 20000 truck for 14000. Ask yourself why is this for sale for nearly half what its worth. Also I'm not trying to pick on anyone in particular it was just one of the examples given.
In 17 years as a auto body tech I have rebuilt many wrecks that have come back with clean Carfax reports. Many cars get wrecked or flooded and sold for cash, with clean titles. I have also fixed many "new" cars from local "Ford" dealerships with the window sticker still in them. Wash boy backs into the wall or another car, whatever. I'm sure you are all aware that if the damage is less than 10% of sticker the dealership isn't required to disclose the damage was even done. Yes on brand new vehicles.. If its not REPORTED to a insurance company how does any one know? Please take the vehicle to someone you trust and don't count on some "STUPID" computer report from someone that has never seen the vehicle.
Now that we have told everyone reading these posts that you should be able to buy a used vehicle for half book value, what do we expect. Quess we have all just shot ourselves in the foot.
I'm just glad I didn't buy my Excursion new. Window sticker is a little over $45000 and now its only worth??? Book is in the $14500 range and according to this thread I'll be lucky to get $7000. But wait the diesel engine alone is worth $4000.
All hugs will be gladly excepted: NO dudes
So my truck which i paid just over 10k when it's valued just over 20k, is a junker? That's funny, because I've driven the hell out of it. there's no leaks anywhere. the trans fluid is clean, the oil is good, every single feature works. Aside from a couple small pain chips on the front bumper, the truck is mint. Go troll elsewhere please.
Also, i'll be sure to avoid buying cars in Wisconsin. Apparently they're all junk and misrepresented there. Over here in these parts, we know how to pick out whether a vehicle is worth it or not.
When I did the research before I bought my Excursion, I used the posted prices from Ebay & Autotrader to get an idea what the price range was per year and mileage. When I look at the KBB prices I noticed that a KBB $20,000 X was selling very close to the trade-in value because of the gas crunch. Demand took a nose dive so the dealers prices had to drop to move the vehicles. $14000 is no way near half of $20,000 (actually 70%), it was the wholesale price at that time. I have owned my X for about 6 months now. One month after I bought it I hooked up my 24'TT and drove from WV to Yellowstone to Grand Canyon back to WV (5000 miles) in 2 weeks with no problems at all. I totally disagree with Chipper.
I bought my 2003 Black 4X4 Limited V-10 from Atlanta Toyota, did this thing look BIG on their lot. I am telling you the SUV's in Atlanta were cheaper than dirt in July and August.
When I purchased mine gas was 4.99 a gallon. I drove nearly 300 miles home with no hint of a problem. They even gave me a tank of gas.
Condition- Excellent
Problems- None
Leaks and drips-None
Oil useage-None
Gas useage- Yes
2000 miles later NO CHANGE
Everything working as it should.
Money spent on repairs- 3.45 for a new interior foot break pad.
No paint work or body work and a clean Carfax.
I'll just put it this way forget the BOOK PRICE, mine is worth about 3 times what I gave for it. It can be inspected at Gatlinburg this July and any one who doubts me can decide for themselves. Gas where I live is now between 1.39 and 1.55 a gallon.
I can assure RIGHT NOW there's a lot of SICK people out there who rushed and traded their perfectfully good late model SUV for a little small or should I say small little wippy car. Guess what they even cry louder when that 350.00 plus a month payment comes around. Know why...... The CHEAPER GAS is the LESS THEY SAVE.........
As for the "hard times" we have been in a recession for nearly a year, it should be over in about 5 months. The big SUV's will bring big bucks if gas does not take another hike. (This is just my opinion, so please don't give me a hard time). I have been through recessions and they last about 15 months. These recessions are almost an act of nature and are expected in the business world.
Anyone who has purchased a EXCURSION will make out like a bandit in the next 24 months if it was purchased at market price, remember FORGET THE BOOK.
Best of luck to all on your recent purchase and enjoy the deal you got !
