I am ready to order a shift kit (merry christams to me) for my truck and need a little advice from those that know or have already done one themselves. I'm not sure to go with the standard kit or the tugger. I am not going to pull the tranny, so I guess what I am asking is there any advantage to the tugger kit over the standard or is all the extras that are included in it just used if you are pulling the tranny? I have looked at previous posts about this and am still a little foggy about witch way to go....Thank you......Kevin
This is on my list next, BTS, saving for it now..Hey Rick, will i have to send my stock one right away or can i get the BTS VB and send mine in later after the job?? Will he still charge me for core???Quick question, sorry for the hi-jack.

Yes, the core charge is charged till they get the core back. Then they will credit your credit card for the core charge. Just do it.
I don't mind the HY-Jack. . The job is so messy. I destroyed a good John Deere shirt doing the VB. Glad I did it.
The $65 TransGo is an easy mod, and you'll learn how your tranny works. I put in the Tugger, and there are some differences between the two. I like my Tugger a lot. Frankly, the BTS VB is just the TransGo kit springs in a stock VB, with the plate pre-drilled. Look at it this way -- you can pay $235 for just the mod'ed Accumulator VB (with TransGo parts) OR you can by the $65 kit, mod more than just the Accumulator VB. $65 is nothing -- if mine goes, I'll get a BTS too. I spent $100 on the Tugger and don't regret it one bit. What's a $100 when you're spending ~$4500??
OK, post. I see you have a BTS in your wish list. Why not get the BTS-VB then when you get the full BTS Brian will not charge you for the VB.
Just wondering.
I was orginally going to go with the BTS-VB but that was before I started to investigate the shift kits. I like to do things like that I guess it's the challenge I look forward to....hopefully won't need the full BTS.....now that i said that....well you know what happens

Joe has good argument. If you want to do this yourself then the transo is the way to go. I know with I have coming this weekend I will get a full BTS trans next. Depends on what you want to do.

So are you recommending the tugger kit now Joe? I thought before you said just the $65 TransGo kit was the way to go???

Kevin, I have been busy, and will get busy this weekend. I got my DP back today and will get my injectors tomorrow. Yeah, Santa is here.
I am not sure what is different between the two kits. I do know that I am happy with the tugger kit. I would recommend it. However not know fully what is in the $65 kit I cant say if one is better than the other. The tugger comes with the plate and springs for the accumulator as well as new springs and valves for manual 1 and 2.
Okay, here's the deal. There is little difference between the two kits, from what I can tell from reading the instructions that Mike posted. Mine had extra mods in the Main VB where his did not, IIRC. I wanted to do as much as I could to it. I suppose either kit will get what you want done (firmer shifts), but being me, I wanted to try out the Tugger, based on some posts about it last year. I forget who it was, but he mentioned the Tugger, and is also the one that pointed out that the BTS VB has TG parts in it. I guess I should have added that disclaimer...
That said, if you want to save a few bucks, get the $65 kit. I think in reality, there isn't much difference between it and the Tugger. However, I wanted to go all out on my tranny in hopes it will last longer with the more complete mods. No idea if it will or not, but that is my hope. So if you want a more completely mod'ed tranny, get the Tugger. Let your goal and your wallet be your guide. I feel okay having spent the extra $35 or $40 based on what I wanted done.
