I do 17-18 mixed in a 4800 lb. 01 SuperCrew.

And if your truck weighs 4800 lbs I want to know where you hiding the lead blocks.

1993-1995 Lightnings only weighed 4300 lbs, and they had a slightly heavier frame, heavier 351 engine and the heavier E4OD trans versus your truck.

So Im not sure how much weight a boxed frame would add over the previous frames, but I wouldnt call a pre -04 truck a weak truck by any means (framewise)

Granted i know the boxed frame is stronger.

Wonder how much weight that would actually add though...

I read a report from Reuters. One of the conditions of the bridge loan program is raising the CAFE to 35 MPG

Not to be a horse's *** but why don't you buy a bone stock f150 strip it some have it tuned for mpg and you have a truck that meets your needs and not americas...

Maybee then u can be safe strong and not get on that 1500 pound diet I think this way would be easier then waiting for ford to get forced to do what u want from the gov...

But then again I love the power so much I opted to go 5.4 in my swap and couldn't care much for mpg

Fone, that must be an average of all the regular passenger production vehicles, it can't be for work trucks and vans or the govt. is on new pills. We've never seen a "full size" 8ft bed truck close to that. What else did it say? We might be driving mailboxes with wheels and snowblower motors soon.

Then the truck would have to loose the flying box shape. It's going to need some serious wind tunnel work. Just look under a Porsche, You'll see the concept applied. Simple, lightweight panels to keep the airflow clean.

They'd have to turn it back into a 1/2 ton truck to pull it off. Then all the Tow Fiends can buy the real F250 to pull their 10K trailers.

It feels like most of the guys arguing about this seem to think that I'm attacking them personally. About their choice in trucks. I'm not. I'm just saying that the F150 has evolved into a giant hulk.

If You truly need to tow 11K lbs. Ford already makes the perfect vehicle for that. Why does the F150 have to be built to do the same thing the F250 already does? It leaves a gaping hole where the F150 used to be 10-15 years ago.
A rugged, medium duty 1/2 ton truck, is not offered by ANYONE these days.

Like I've stated before, loosing weight is jsut like adding power. No one would be complaining about 310 HP if the truck weighed 4500lbs, instead of 5800 lbs
I understand where you are coming from. What are you going to do about the increase in price coming from the aluminum parts? I noticed you have mentioned aerodynamics quite a bit. I would think that Ford has already done quite a bit of wind tunnel work with the trucks. Even though they are boxy that doesn't mean that they are pushing air as bad as you think they are.

What about the guys that don't tow 10k trailers but once or twice a year? It is rather foolish to go buy a 3/4 or 1 ton truck if you are not going to tow that often. Think of how many people have campers that they pull every once in a while?

UH, the Dodge frame is boxed too and did pretty well on the washboard test. Pretty close to the F150.The softer coil spring suspension caused it to sway a little, not the frame.

It seems that most of Fords brakes end up on the wheels in a matter of miles. It's hard to find a 04-up F150 without brake dust covered wheels. If they used a better pad, it wouldn't make such a mess. Obviously the brakes are working overtime to stop these pigs or they wouldn't shed so bad.

Some brake pads dust more than others no matter how hard you are actually braking.

Frame of 97 - 03 is much weaker than the 04+. First hyrdroformed frame was 99 chevy. Thats when things started to get good. Dodge out did them by a fair bit in 02. Then Fords 04 became the leader... for good. In their 07s Gm wanted a stiff frame but didn't want the weight of the Ford. So they compromised.
