Question seats

Yes I know this has been brought up several times and I will be doing a search also but looking for quick answers. I have found a seat, high back buckets and center in tan the color I need as green can't be found, Here is the question, will they fit from a 1996 extended cab? Looke like they mount on a special steel platform, and I see they are different from the reg cab, anyone out there made this swap from a extended cab ?

Thanks and have a great day

I know the bench seat will bolt directly to your original seat tracks but I don't know about buckets. I suspect you would have to fabricate the mounts because the floor of the cabs is not shaped the same.

yup - you will have to make something. See my galleries for an idea of what I did on mine

So you took a 60/40 power split bench and made it a... 1 piece bench?

Yeah - it just slides on the factory sliders from my 74. There wasn't really any reason to keep it 60/40 for me, and I'm not really a fan of hacking holes in the floor to get the seats in. This way I used both the stock holes on the cab floor, and the stock holes in the seat.

That's old news though. That seat is sold and gone. I am replacing it with a set of seats out of an '06 crew cab. The rear is a solid bench and the front is 3 pieces. This one will be even harder to make work, but the seats look better. I am tempted to use the stock power motors, etc. on these new seats, but then we come back to the issue of not wanting to hack up the stock floor. Well, it's more a matter of not liking the fact that if you bolt buckets in these things there is no reinforcing under the stock floor other than where the 2 stock sliders mount. I will have to fix that by making some supports if I use the power motors on these things.

Whenever I do seats in other vehicles I use those 2" diameter grade 8 washers under the seat.

yeah - large, fender washers are 1 way to go. They can work, but I usually end up using a small angle iron (l__ shaped rather than equal length sides) or a small channel iron instead. It spreads the load over a broader area than just the fender washers. It's amazing what will rip right though the factory floorboards in a hard enough crash...
And - if you want to test this - go visit a buddy with a metal shop. See if he has a power punch. You'd be surprised at the little amount of force it actually takes to punch a 2" hole in 22 ga. sheet steel.

Oh - and another reason for making my 60/40 "power" split bench a single piece is - I never got the power motor when I bought the thing. Heck - I only got the mounting brackets for the "60" portion of the seat. The guy kept the power portion (the "40") which is just for the driver seat and used it with his newer buckets.

If I'm in a hard enough crash to rip 2" holes in my floor, I'm dead anyway, IMO.

If that's the way you want to look at it then cool.
Not me though. It depends on more than that. It's all a matter of how much force is transferred to those 2" washers to make them act as cutting devices. A lot goes into it - such as the stamping of the washer you use - if it's got a sharp edge or not, AND whether this sharp edge is against the floor. Also how/whether or not you are "tied" to the seat itself or the cab as well By this I mean seat belts connected to the seat itself (new truck style) or the cab (old truck style). If the seat belts connect to the seat then the seat mounting brackets with take the brunt of the load. If the seat belts mount to the floor then there are multiple more "connection points" to the cab that also help distribute the load so it's not focused on the seat mounts. Plus, if you aren't wearing a seat belt than very minimal amount of load will be transferred to the seat mounts, but this has a downside - that load will be transferred to you when you hit the window...

Which is why the factory doesn't simply use 2 inch washers to hold the seat down!

You can look in my gallery and you may get some ideas, but I installed 03 F150 Lariat seats (60/40), and kept the power motor. They're a lot more comfortable than the old bench. I did a write-up on this install, you can pm me if you want details.

In my 66 I put a rear bench out of a 94 crewcab, mounts are exactly the same width, I ended up raising it up with some .120 steel scrap I came across while looking for something else. I love the bench and would like to find about maybe 3 MORE for my other pigs, I like the removable center beer, er,,, drink holder and they look nice, look in my gallery for my 66. And the nice blue seat that was in my 66 went into my 79 F-350 4X I had at the time, perfect bolt in fit, I had just had it reupholtsered.

Thanks to all for the quick responces, the buckets I went to look at I passed up, very used, found a brown/tan bench for now and will bolt it in this weekend. FLCRACKER9 That is one AWSOME truck, where I want mine to be as soon as my son graduates from college, that tution will make good for paint and interior.
