78 F150 factory a/c !!! The low pressure valve at the compressor is leaking refrigerant around the stem { the one you open or close to fill or check } is there a way of repairing this ?? Or buy the whole hose assembly with new valve in place
it is a shrader (sp?) valve, just like a valve stem on a tire. YOu can buy a core tool to remove/tighten it, but if i remember correctly it is larger than a tire valve stem. The core may just be loose, or it could be bad. I would check to see if it is loose, and then if it is not i would replace it. You will however lose all your refrigerant, and I'm sure someone will tell you to take your truck to a shop and have the a/c system emptied first (environmental reasons). This however is up to you, because I do not care what happens in your driveway All of the parts can be purchased at a local Auto Zone, etc. Hope this is the issue you were talkin about! Good Luck

Thanks but that is the wrong valve on the 70's there was a valve made on the end of the hose that connects to the compressor . This valve usually had a alum. cap over it . This is the one thats leaking
****, I knew that. I guess I wasn't paying attention to the fact that you have a 78 Sorry man, I hope you get it taken care of. I know nothing of how to repair your old stuff
