In the tech folder there are 57 pages (I have not read them all) on the topic of EGR disconnect. Lately I have seen lots of posts about an entire EGR delete. Is the disconnect better than doing nothing ? Is the delete really necessary ? If the 5yr/100K warranty is still in effect should I do anything at all ? My truck is an 04, and from what i've read, not all 04's are the same. Just looking for info.
Thanks,
me personally i originally just disconned it on my 05 buy when i did this the turbo vains went into a defaut mode to limit boost, i got around this by buying a new egr valve and plugged the egr wire into this one and tucked it by the oil filter housing, works fine no fixed turbo psi, no codes, lights or anything went off so that is my cheap route to go, the full egr delete is the best way though by removing the complete egr system, you no longer run the risk of egr/cooler failure problem.

There is a good point there, that is the difference. With "just" disconnecting the valve, the hot exhaust gases still go into the EGR cooler chamber, so the EGR failure possibility is still there.
Yes it is a good option. It is actually a blocked off EGR cooler, where you keep the EGR cooler at place, use the block off plate , and the restrictive scoop also removed from the up-pipe, so it is an "updated" blocked off EGR cooler.
I THINK, it will not affect warranty, because nothing "shows".
Unplugging the EGR is pointless IMO. It doesnt address the actual concern really. Delete the cooler, mod the up-pipe and never have another EGR problem. EVER. Only real fix.
i have a 04 6.0L with stock exhaust just deleted the muffler but i want to here more turbo if i cut off the cat and but a 3.5 inch pipe back will i run into a problem
The only thing I can think of that you will "cause" is lower EGT's. How does my truck sound? Sweeeetttt!! But I have 5" stacks, yours might not be as loud if you're just deleting the cat/ muffler and running it out in the stock location, but it will sound very nice, IMHO! You might want to keep the cat for inspection and warranty purposes.
O.K. I've seen a few replies, and then this old (2004) thread pops up with this response:
'04 6.0 4x4 6'' lift w/ 35 BFG's....I felt a huge difference in throttle response just unplugging the EGR!! I just bought the block off plate for the exhaust tube to the EGR cooler to stop all hot air from entering !! Without removing all the EGR cooler crap, it looks like its legally hooked up still !! Forget about spending $ 500 -$ 600 on the delete kit... spend $ 35 on the block off plate and be done with it...I can't wait till I install that !! Then you can leave the EGR in place and plugged in with no codes... What more do you want !!!!
