I have a '47 Mercury truck, basically a Ford with different trim.
How does the grille attach to the front panel?
Is the front panel the same as the Ford?
The grille is different from the Ford, the Ford is 5 groups of 3 vertical bars, but the Merc is horizontal bars, 6 levels, 1 on each side attached together to a cast piece in the middle.
Here is what it looks like: http://www.majesticscarclub.com/Stan...ry%20truck.jpg
Thanks.
I have one of these grilles in my garage, complete panel and all from a '47 Merc. The grille panel is the same as the Ford, however, as I'm sure you know, the mounting holes for the bars are different. The Merc bars had special brackets that attached it to the panel, at the ends of the bars. If I recall correctly the panel still does have the mounting holes for the Ford grille bars, all the various trim pieces for the Merc just cover it all up.
Hi 46fordtruck, thanks for answering. Another question.
The grille is assembled now, but some pieces are real tight into the front panel. The parts come further away from the front panel towards the center. There is enough room to slide my fingers in between the grille center and the panel center. But I can't just push it in, the tabs at the ends are already in tight. Is there some kind of trick to this or is there a piece that goes in behind the centers to take up the space?
old farmer, I'm not sure as the grille I have is all disassembled right now. If I get a chance I can check it out and see if I can see how it all goes together. But if I am reading your post correctly, do you have a sheetmetal bracket that bolts to the die cast center piece of the grille bars?
We got it together, finally.
We have all the pieces, we had to make little cuts in the panel and pull the metal back on the ones that wouldn't fit. I don't know why it was like that.
But it's all together now and looks right.
Thanks for the help.
....hey ol farmer, that picture of the green Mercury... its mine. Its a 46. Taken a year or so ago. Stock flathead power. I still own it...it still looks the same. Stan.....
