Quick question: Are the motor mounts for a Mercury 429 not the same as mounts for the Ford 429? Looking at motor mounts in the LMC catalogue. The description says it is for a Ford 429 and NOT a Mercury 429.
The 'Mercury' version 429 was the Ford. The Cougar is the only car that I can remember off hand that had a 429, and it had a 'Cobra Jet' version of the 429cu in motor. I built a Shelby Cobra 'clone' many years ago and built a Boss 429 motor for it. In my opinion that was a pretty good motor. I often thought it would be a good boat motor with all that torque.
As to your question there is no difference with the motor mounts .
One and the same . used in cougars grad marquis etc. There were 4 versions . base thunderjet , cobra jet , super cobra jet , boss 429 which was a mustang only item and if memory serves me 1 or 2 cougars . most common is the thunder jet . 360 horse 470 ft lb . and most likely what you have there are differences in the blocks from to jet to cj and scj and boss as well as forged cranks , pistons etc .

These were the options in 1970 when I ordered my Cyclone Spoiler with the SCJ 429. If memory serves me, the Boss was a couple grand more than the SCJ and since both were rated at 375 HP, I didn't feel the extra money was worth it. On the test drive, I felt the car running rough. The dealer looked into the engine and found it had thrown a keeper. The valve fell into the cylinder and broke off, flipped over and penetrated the piston. I denied delivery of the car unless they were going to put a crate motor in. They were going to rebuild it with a bare block. Never took delivery.
damn shame ed !!! that car would be worth a pretty penny right now !! oh and the differences in the blocks were thicker main webs , 4 bolt main caps . the cobra jet and scj heads were also vastly different . the thunder jet which i had one and tweaked as well as a cobra jet i had were both strong and reliable engines . both engines resided in my 70 bird . replaced the oe thunderjet { tweaked of course } for a tweaked cobra jet .
The Cyclone came with the 429 Thunderjet while the Cyclone GT came with a 351, and the Spoiler came with the Cobrajet. When I priced the car out, I looked at all of the ways to build it, it came out the same no matter which engine or body style you chose. But the Spoiler did come with the spoiler and canted dash gauges. I added the Detroit locker and AM/FM radio.

LMC as usual, doesn't have a clue. What car is the 429 installed in that you need engine mounts for?

Just to echo some of the others- it's the same animal.
The ad heading says "1969 ford 429 and C6 trans." The body of the text says that it is out of a Mercury. The motor mount comment at LMC didn't make sense to me. I figured you guys would know for sure.
