Unhappy multi-function switch....(blinkers)

I failed the yearly inspection! One of the reasons was the left blinker only works when the switch is depressed half way down. Well more like, if I was on the high way and wanted to change lanes, I could hold it down about half way and the blinker would blink. however ,if I needed to engage it all the way on it would usually take a few tries before it stayed in the on position.

so I have done some looking around and it seems that they are pretty pricey! The dealer wants $120. The cheapest after market is $65 at C.A.P. and of course the others are $75 and up. So I tried the junk yard. Well they will only sell me the whole steering column for somewhere between $75-$90! I need it for a sticker, but I don't have that kind of cash. Especially with the holidays soon approaching.
So is there ANY WAY POSSIBLE TO FIX IT??!! EVEN IF THE FIX IS JUST LONG ENOUGH TO GET THE STICKER!!??

If any one has ANY ideas what-so-ever, they are surely welcomed! It is a 98 ranger with-out tilt steering wheel, and auto-trans sift on the column. the switch carries the blinkers, the windshield wipers/wash, high/low beams. thanks in advance.

The multifunction switch has been a problem part over the years.

Seems contact corrosion has been a problem, usually associated with random "fantom" wiper action, even when they're turned off & Ford had a replacement program 00B40, for certain 99 & 00 vehicles to replace it.

Anyway, some folks have had good luck on fixing acting out switches, with removing, disassembling, cleaning, relubricating & reinstalling the multifunction switch contacts, others with popping off the end of the twist portion of the switch & squirting some WD-40 in there & working it around.

But this won't fix worn, or broken contacts.

Some thoughts for consideration. Let us know how it goes.

i have a 2000 ranger and had the phantom wipers, tried the elec contact cleaner which worked for a little while. finally bought a new mfs and that took care of the prob. here's a site for a new mfs for $50. not affiliated yada yada. the old switch won't get any better and will drive you crazy, and it's a 15 min job at the most.
