Groan from front end.....

I know, another 4x4 question. I have searched but cannot find what I am looking for so if anyone knows a post please direct me there.

As we all know, winter is coming. I have a 97 Ranger 3.0 with 125000 mi on it, 5spd. This is second vehicle for me so it doesn't get a ton of driving time. I put it into 4wd every so often to keep things lubed up, however, I have been noticing a groan from the from end whenever the hubs are locked. It sounds like it is coming from the front axle and it doesn't have to be in 4x4 to make the noice, just as soon as I lock the hubs. I have changed the tranny fluid, transfer case fluid, and front axle fluid, and the wheel bearings were redone about 6 months ago when I did my front brakes and rotors. I primarily use this truck in the winter to get around so I need to make sure it is ok. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all help, John

Did you have the groan before the wheel bearings were re-done?

yes, i did have it then too. Thats why I changed all the fluids and had the bearings done when i did the brakes. its not really loud, but you can notice the change when the hubs are locked and when they aren't
