Yeah a Good Ford factory warranty,,,lol,,I agree with you,,How does that help you when your 2k miles from them !
I would rather do the tranny service,,,at 30k or so,,(mine was almost 37k)have a look in there,,get to know it a little bit,,my pan was basically clean,,so I know nothing is really wrong with it(no chunks or metal filing's),and maybe just maybe you can Keep Ford or anybody else from getting there hands on it,,and costing you even more!
Thanks for the tip on the Transgo shift kit. I plan to pull a 14ft enclosed trailer, I know this will help.
T remember how helpfull ford was with bending the I beams on their frount ends. Back when they wouldnt do it you had to take it somewhere else to fix their mistake.
thanks, Butch
I have a 2005 Explorer with 84,000 miles on it and have had no problems with the transmission and I love the way it shifts. As far as your fluid change goes, the transmission is a "sealed unit" there is no dipstick to check the fluid, it also has no filter to change. To change the fluid you can bring it to a Ford dealer (I did) and they will connect a line to one of the cooler lines and pump out the old and pump in the new for about $100. As far as checking the level, there is a method that remember seeing in a Haynes manual but can't remember exactly how.
Hi I just purchased a 2005 explorer xls plain and simple as the owner. It had 37,000 miles V-6.
I didnt like the way the tranny went into reverse from a cold start. As the weather has become colder here in Ohio the delay to reverse became longer.
Well i thought its low on fluid.
So i spent 10min. under the hood looking for a dipstick to check-10 min looking in the manual for placement of said stick.
Didnt know the DIPSTICK was the one doing the search!
Getting ready to call the dealer for service record dates on tranny but dont have too much faith in them couldnt even find the door codes for me.
I Like the explorer 19-24+ mileage with KNN and Duralube. Much better than my 02 TRITON.
This brings me to my Questions 1. Anyone had a similar problem or a solution ?
2. The book tells to use no additives what tranny fluid to use ?
Thanks in advance Butch001
How the heck are you getting that kind of mpg? My 2005 with 50K miles gets in the 13's most of the time, and over 14 only once. I brought it back to the dealer, and they said the computer says everything is fine with it ( plugs, wires, O2 senser). To me that is a bunch of crap. something must be wrong. Is everyone else getting your kind of mileage?
