I had my speed control recall repaired at local ford dealer12/23/07. After the repair i noticed a thump in the drive train you could feel between 40 and 55 mph like a hard shift. I met another person had same thing done and he complained of the same problem. He took my vehicle for a drive, yup feels the same as his. We had the repairs done at the same dealer. I Had tranny filter and fluid changed he had not still there.Anyone had this problem?
Thanks in advance, BUTCH001
had my disconnected, dealer said it will be 3 or 4 mos before they can get the new part, i,m surprised they had the new part for you, all the recalls here in florida they are only disconnecting cruise contol
I got mine done in Ohio. Called to get oil change and service said they had the parts in stock for the speed control and time to do it. What suprised me was meeting a stranger with the same problem! He had a older truck with same servive (before mine) and came up with the same symptoms,

I've got an '02 E150 and had the recall thing done a few months ago at a routine oil change. The only thing that is done is that a low-amperage inline fuse is added to the power wire for the cruise switch inside the master cylinder.
Look somewhere else for the weird shift problem, I'd say....
that's all they do is change a fuse tthat's rediculas
Problem with the cruise switch is that it's inside the master cylinder; if it leaks fluid internally, it can short out and start a fire. Stupid design leaves the switch hot at all times, including when the vehicle is parked.
Instead of a new switch, they just add a very low-amp fuse in a short piece of wire with a male and female connector. All they do is remove the connector from the master cylinder switch, add the short piece of fused wire (with male/female connectors) and ziptie it to the brake lines to keep it in place.
Cheap and easy for Ford; I feel OK in that the van won't burn down in my yard, and again, I sure don't see how it could ever affect trans shifting....
if thats all they do how come the dealer says they don't have the part and can't locate any. and whats a fuse doing inside the master cylinder in the first place. i remember when lincolns were cathing on fire i thought that was an ignition problem.

It's a 6 inch long piece of wire with an inline fuse, and male connector on one end, female on the other end, so they have to have them made up somewhere--probably Mexico or China.... Nothing is cut or soldered.
The cruise has an "off" switch, made by Texas Instruments incidentally, inside the brake fluid side of the MC--it's a little reed switch that cuts off the cruise when the fluid pressure is high (i.e. when you apply the brakes). Problem is that it's always hot, and if it gets brake fluid inside, a short happens and a fire starts in the engine compartment.
Ford has had a number of lawsuits with the switch torching people's garages, including one Expedition in a garage directly under the bedroom where people were sleeping and ultimately died in the fire. The idea of this little fuse (which is something like 1/10 or 1/100 amp) is to blow before your truck starts on fire. Again, I feel much better having the fuse there.

Maybe you could just ask the dealer what they did? This is the only recall I know of, had it done to my van which is the only reason I'm aware of it.
Are you sure there is no connector on the master cylinder somewhere where a wire plugs in and is currently disconnected?
i am gonna go back and see what they did, my cruise control is on the trottle body, my master cylinder looks like a regular master cylinder no wires or cables just two brake lines
