I have a eddie bauer 1998 Expedition 5.4 4x4 when you start vehicle it shuts off if you dont accelorate. When drive and then you idle at a stop sign or red light you have to box it up to keep it running. The thing that puzzles me is that the check engine light does not come on. And one day it may die 5 times while driving and the next day it may not die at all. if anyone could please help it would be greatly appreciated Thanks
id try cleaning the MAF , and TB and go from there. could be the IAC going bad. on days it runs fine seem like its warmer out?? usually cold days effect the IAC more it seems
Better hurry up and get this fixed before you have bigger problems. My 99 expy sitting in the yard now for 2 weeks. Had the same problems that you are having. That's the way it started. No code was showing up, everytime I had a mechanic to look at it and keep it, it did fine with them. The IAc valve was bad and I had it replaced, the problem persisted. Starting getting worse, to where I couldn't drive it too far before it cut off. I had it checked out again then the tps sensor finally showed up on the codes. Mind you the check engine light does not always pop on. I had the sensor replaced. It also showed trouble with the converter. It's stopped up. Has black smoke started coming from your tailpipe?
No there is no signs of black smoke. but, I did replace the IAC valve and also cleaned the MAF it worked good for about a day and a half. The tps sensor you are talking about where is it and what is it? Someone said to check the TB what is that and where is it also. Any information on this matter would be greatly apperciated. Because the way the economy is now I sure cant afford to pay a mechanic to fix it.
The TPS-Throttle Position Sensor is on the throttle body on the opposite side from the throttle cable. In the simplest of explanation, it's a variable resistor that tells the computer the position of the throttle so it can adjust the air/fuel ratio accordingly.
Well guys its fixed!!!!!!!!!!!! The problem was me!!! What I thought was the IAC was the TPS.. I hand an old manifold with TB and sensors on it from a motor I had. I took off the TPS sensor first and replaced it and thought I was replacing the IAC. Later I found out Where the IAC was. took it off and cleaned it with TB cleaner. And It works fine. Thanks goes out to every person on this thread that help me. With out you people and 300.00 - 400.00 later it would have been running!!! Thank so much!
