New to me 2003, F150, FX4. At first when I tried to select 4x4 with the dash **** I would hear the low ticking sound under the dash but no lights would ever appear on the dash as if its in 4 wheel. Now, no ticking sound and still no lights on the dash. The lights do come on when I turn the key but 4 wheel will not engage. I've selected 4H and left it there thinking it may go for a few miles and never get anything. I even tried shorting 2 of the wires on the back of the switch with no luck. I've checked EVERY fuse and found nothing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated...
No, its no going into 4x4. I'm told its pretty obvious when it is and over the weekend I was able to rotate the drive line going towards the front by hand.
Should I take it to the dealer to diagnose the solenoid?
These trucks have an electronically actuated selector on the transfer case and I think vacuum operated center lock on the differential. If you could turn the drive shaft after selecting 4 wheel wouldn't that suggest neither end of the system is working? I believe the hubs are always engaged, so it shouldn't be able to turn if center lock and/or transfer case are engaged. Maybe the center lock doesn't engage until the transfer case turns the dive shaft. Either way it sounds like the problem starts at the transfer case.
I guess I will try trouble shooting the wiring on T-case. I have no idea what any of them should do but taking a look is better than doing nothing. Thanks for the help...
