you can use the intercooler from a newer SD either the 7.3 or 6.0 will work, look around and will will find several wrtie ups. or you can buy a banks intercooler kit for these truck. as far as the need for an intercooler is defined by what size injectors you are planning on running and what you plan to use the truck for, either way make room in your budget for some gauges so you can keep an eye on what the truck is doing

It'd be a good idea.
best bet for intercooler at a reasonable price is to retrofit a newer 7.3 or 6.0 stock cooler, watch ebay.

you'll definitely want to install an IC. however there are a few different options when you go to buy one. i bought a full Banks kit from a diesel shop and i did pay a pretty penny but i was impressed at how thorough the kit was and i was done in one afternoon. i was pressed for time to get a IC mounted due to a trip i was about to take towing a trailer and didnt want to worry about EGT's anymore. had i allowed myself enough time i would have pieced mine together. in fact i actually bought a 6.0 IC that I never did anything with. its just sittin on the shelf at the shop

if you have the time to find the pieces and enjoy fabrication then build yourself. however if you just want to get an IC in your truck asap and have the extra cash throw down for a kit.

Dont forget the tuning... lol
If it's an auto, you may want to consider a shift kit, and maybe the cure...
( The Ford Transmission Cure for shift flair problems ) it controls TC lockup.

Stacked is good for sure. I picked my IC up from TJ here on FTE. Some other guys might have their old ones for sale too. Check out the classifieds on the top tool bar.
