I find the need for a 4WD truck. I just bought a 2001 F350 2WD not realizing I need more than the brut 7.3 power. I looked for 4WD trucks and can find them at a reseaonable price but they all have over 150K. My 2WD has 85K and I plan on keeping it.
I am talking with a parts guy on a 03 Larriatt rollover. His prices seem good but how much should I expect to spend for the parts.
Going to get a complete leaf spring front end, transfer case, 2 drive shafts and either a complete trans or a tailshaft housing.
Will it be hard to convert the electric transfer to manual?
The trans needs more than a tailshaft housing. You also need a 4x4 output shaft, it's different than the 4x2 shaft. To change the shaft EVERYTHING comes out of the trans.
Thanks Mark, I will have to check out my parts cat. I thought I read 2wd and 4wd 4R100 used the same shaft, bushing with a different housing. Makes buying the whole trans sound like a better idea. See if I can make a deal on a swap.
Finally some support Thanks DuallyDan. Plan on the parts this weekend and do the work on the long weekend comming up. Try to post some pic.
But any body out there know how my luck goes . Bought some 18" off a 03 or 04 with 2" spacers. Ford changed the pitch on the lugs. Go figure. Other than the lugs would there be an advantage in getting the 03 rear end?
