Assuming that you mean the numbers are on the block ABOVE the starter, that is not a familiar number. I suspect that it might be an industrial motor. That might be a good thing or there could be incompatibilties. Research this thoroughly before building a motor out of it.

Lightbulb numbers are on the block ABOVE the starter...

I know what your going thru brother...what happened to the 2nd digit???

This is all I could find out from MY stash of part # info...

DXXX-XXXX-X = 70's

??????????---I think we are missing "something" here...

V = X is used for special parts and Y or Z are often service parts.
XXJX-XXXX-X Industrial

BUT...I have another list that says:
V = Lincoln Continental 1961-81
so I guess we need NUMBERDUMMY to figure it out...

XXXE-XXXX-X Engine group

Basic Part Numbers:
6000-6898 Engine base assembly
8000-8499 Radiator and Grill---are you SURE about THIS one???

Suffix:
Just keeps track of runningchanges & revision levels
as parts change...

D8ve-6015-a3a

I think the casting number should actually read D8VE-6015-A3A. 8 is the only number that gives a valid small block casting number so far as I could determine. The suffix A3 vs. A3A is probably inconsequential. Here's an old post discussing this block:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...-or-289-a.html

I can't think of what industrial use a 302 would have been put to. Perhaps the person you got it from can elaborate? If it has odd brackets and accessories that might help figure it out. Without evidence to the contrary, I'd suppose it's a car engine.

Almost certainly it's a D8VE-6015-A3A casting on which the "8" was set too low in the mold or covered with sand or similar.

Can you post an image?

Block casting basic number is 6015, not 8015. 6000 group is engine related, 8000 group is related to cooling.

What is the casting numbers 2nd digit? The 1970/79 3rd digit of V is related to 429/460.

You better have another look at that casting number, because the V is Lincoln related. No Lincoln had a 302 until 1980.

From the Ranger Station, here is an image purported to be a 302:

302 ID help - The Ranger Station Forums

Maybe Ford had planned to use this in the Versailles and therefore assigned development to the Lincoln Division?

The A3A has the big Hi-Po Main caps. The 3A has the std 302 main caps. I've had hands on both versions. The A3A is basically a recast version of the 289 Hi-Po and the Mex 302 block with a few minor differences. Same iron content for all three (136 lbs)
