Hi all, Is there any hints or things I need to know before installing the remote start in my truck? I know our trucks have the PATS (or is it VATS?) system and I know it needs to see the chip in the key or it won't start. How do you manage this?
Thanks
Rich

VATS is a chevy system (Vehicle Anti-Theft system 1 or 2), Ford uses PATS (passive anti-theft system). However they pretty much work the same way, send the key a signal and if you get the right one back, let the engine run.
There are two types of bypass modules, key and programmable. I prefer the programmable type because your not leaving a key under the dash that can start the vehicle. However, they both work well enough.
So you get the bypass, it wires into the RS on the ground while run and probably a hot while run like the ign wire. Then it interrupts the signal return wire on the column. When programmed or supplied with a working key, when the RS is used to start, the RS turns on the Ign and accessory wires, and the ground while run. This powers up the bypass module, then the correct signal is sent to the ECM and finally the RS powers the crank wire.
