FM Transmitter
Are these any good? How is the sound quality? I have a HiFi system so the quality is VERY important. Any potential problems?
Thanks
Human hearing is expected to be in the 20Hz to 20,000Hz range. FM radio only transmits 50Hz to 15kHz. I would only expect the FM receivers/transmitters to reproduce that range so your going to loose 30Hz on the low end and 5kHz on the high. Can hear below 50Hz or above 15kHz? If not then using a FM modulator will work fine, if your going to want those freqs then no, don't use them.
Tell us a bit more about your stereo system, there are probably other options. If it's a stock hifi or premium system, then disregard everything else, they aren't as faithful as I was going.
I have one I use in my old cars with no Aux port on the radio. I lucked out and it seems to work well with my iPod. Some FM transmitters are better than others.
Mine is an iTrip and designed to only plug into my iPod. I can choose any station from 87 to 108. I do have to change the output station from time to time as I come across radio transmission on the chanel I am using. The radio output will overpower my FM transmitter.
I highly recomend looking into some kind of direct hookup and if you have to get a FM transmitter get the one with the 200 station sellection (87 to 108) and not the 3 chanel selection.
I just got a new Alpine headunit for my 01 car and it has a iPod direct connect and my 07 Ranger has the Aux port for anything that will plug into the 3.5mm jack.
