I have an 06 F-350 FX4 SRW 6.0L Diesel. I would like to install a remote start for the truck. My advice I need is what is available out there. And would it be better to install an alarm system with the remote start. And beings I have a diesel what do I need for the remote start. As you can see I know nothing about alarms and remote starters. So any info is appriciated.
I installed the Ford aftermarket remote start on my V10 2004 Excursion. They have kits with and without alarms. There are extra provisions to wire for a diesel to allow for the glow plug cycle. This was a complicated install on the Ex. It took a week end. About 30 wire conections, cut and splice required. It is not a simple plug in and I don't expect the 2006 F 350 to be much different. Go to the Ford parts web site and look up the kits, you should find one for your truck. Mine does work great , I didn't use the kit with alarm, that would have added about another 15 connections.
my alarm has a feature for deisels with glow plugs, it also has a turbo cool down feature. but if your truck has a manual it is not going to be an option
Thanks Guy's. My trans is an automatic. And I am interested in that cool down feature as I pull a 10,000lb TT often. I have heard that viper has a great system also. I think I do want an alarm to help keep the stealers away. I will not even attempt to install it myself. I did all my own stuff in my teen years on cars that were not worth much. Now I am older , impatient and the truck was expensive. So I do not need to mess anything up.
