1995 F250 is still acting up in wet weather; ABS light flashes, transmission downshifts and is rough, speedometer and odometer stop working. Replaced the wiring at the "ABS" sensor in the rear axle and that worked for a few weeks, but problem is back. Went to Autozone to buy a new Vss sensor; they have one (Duralast SU1019) that has a speedometer-cable type section at one end and they claim this mounts in the transmission, and They have Wells SU2175 which they also call VSS and ABS sensor, which mounts in rear axle. Autozone looked at 1994, 1995, 1996 and said they all have BOTH sensors (Vss in transmission and ABS (also called VSS) in rear axle).
I didn't think the 1995 5.8 liter 4E0D transmission had a transmission-mounted speed sensor; => can anyone confirm?
Thanks.
I bought both (the rear axle ABS sensor and the transmission VSS); Autozone said I could return whatever I didn't need.
I'll mention to them that they need to update their computer; I looked over the guy's shoulder and it does say the truck has a transmission-mount Vss sensor -- which it doesn't (I looked all over the one in my truck).
I haven't found a sensor on my truck either , sounds like we are having the same problem,
My truck speedometer goes crazy,then truck starts shifting hard and it seems that the motor doesn't want to run right, idles ok but when you put it in gear it runs rough and will die at times
diff mount only , btw fords is updated an is only 30 bucks ,
What do you mean "updated" Please elaborate? Mine shifts kind of funny, but not sure if its something wrong, or just me? I havent had it long. It has 215,000 miles on it, I changed the fluid, and put in an additive. It shifts good, but it just dont hold the gears long enough to suit me.
Thanks.

What do you mean “which one?” As stated in the thread, there is only one speed sensor which is on top of the rear differential. 1991 and older trucks with a cable driven speedometer have the transmission or transfer case speed sensor for cruise
/speed control.
