explorer woes
I have a 99 Explorer eddie bauer 4.0 4wd. Runs great only 125k. Began having issues with ABS Sensor, Replaced both hubs around November 2012 which had new sensors included *needed them anyways,
abs light came on just two weeks ago 7 and was told to replace the abs/vss sensor on rear axle. ABS Light still on.
Well last week the speedometer, cruise control stopped working all together, as well as Check engine light came on, it shifts fine and demonstrates no other problems, radio randomly *(not often) flakes out but that is it. I went to auto zone and the code reader came up with P0500 they sold me a "Front VSS sensor" that supposedly goes on the transmission and connects to the speedometer cable and other end goes in trans, but I've not been able to find where it actually goes, last night went back to auto zone and they sold me a different part "Vehicle speed sensor trans speed sensor" p/n su2320. I'm at a loss as to where to find that sensor, and before I continue spending $$$ I am wondering if anyone has any feedback or similar issues that have been successfully repaired. Living in Mass - god forbid a sensor light is on, and unable to get it to pass inspection....
The P0500 does indicate that there was an error in vehicle speed indication and the rear ABS sensor has been a common issue in that generation of Explorer.
