hey everyone, my buddy has an 89 f250 7.3 4x4, it used to be my truck but i got rid of it after i hit a wall on the interstate . We pieced the truck back together and it runs fine, but anytime you mash the pedal past half throttle it DUMPS black smoke!! While its cool to be smokin , it dumps way too much smoke! it will cover the whole freeway if you floor it doing 65. all we could think is maybe the ip is turned up a little or something. The guy i bought it from told me the truck has only 100k miles , so it shouldnt be that worn out.
any help you guys could give us would be appreciated. thanx.
Mine used to do that, hell it even outsmoked an 18-wheeler named "the Smoke House", but I had my IP turned way up for that. But there's another thing, when you get on the throttle at 65 does the truck downshift? These things only smoke big when they're lugging, and about the only way to do that at freeway speed is put the throttle down without downshifting - can't really to that with a slushbox tho, unless something ain't right - if you got an automatic trans, does it downshift properly?
