Where is the location of the #6 glow plug? Under the driver side or passenger side valve cover? Is it alright to just replace 1 or all 4 (or all 8) at one time?
The #6 GP is on the drivers side. You may want to take a look at this thread to see how to check your system, it will help you determine what exactly needs to be replaced.
Drivers side is 2-4-6-8 front to rear. You could get by with just replacing one, but if you've got the money, might as well do all 4 on that side. I take it you have a CA truck or excursion telling you the #6 is bad?
You must have this, a GPCM (Glow Plug Control Module) if you are getting an individual GP DTC.
Try re-seating the connectors for the even number cylinders at the GPCM and the UVCH. If you still get the 0676 and everything ohms out good from the GPCM connector to the #6 GP try this.
Another poster was getting the same 0676 DTC but the #6 GP ohmed out OK. I told him to swap the connectors at the GPCM. He did and got the same 0676 DTC again. This pointed to the GPCM. If he had gotten an 0675 it would have pointed to a problem between the GPCM and the glow plug. He posted back after replacing the GPCM that he had no more GP DTCs. This is also a good way to test the GPCM no matter which GP or GPs may show bad.
Just want you to be able to check all you can before pulling a valve cover.
Originally, I got the GPCM code and it went away. After that, it kept pegging #6 as the bad one even though it has been changed, ohmed all the way from the GPCM. I had to change the GPCM and it was fine.
I swapped the connectors at the GPCM & code P0676 still comes up. P0683 also comes up now. I swapped the connectors back to original & both codes still come up.

Have you ohmed the connections from the plug to the negative terminal? If all the GPs test out good, it must be the GPCM.

It appears you have a bad GPCM. If you really had a problem between GPCM and #6 GP when you swapped connectors you should have gotten P0675, problem with #5 GP. The P0683 is GPCM glow plug control module communication linefailure. Probably from pulling off the connectors. If you clear it I bet it won't come back. You have the same problem as Aklim, bad GPCM. See post #5. This is not the first time P0676 has been the GPCM and not the GP. At least it is easy to change. Two nuts and two connectors.
I have the same problem. code p0676 came up and I changed glow plugs, checked harness and uvch and every thing ohms and looks good. I swapped the green and black at the gpcm and the P0676 went away and it coded P0683. Did a new gpcm fix your problem?
