went to Talladega last weekend with some friends and pulled a 37' camper/toy hauler. The truck was a 4 door mega cab 3/4 ton, 4wd with the 6.7 diesel. Overall it was a pretty decent ride...it had the 6spd auto tranny which was nice. Don't know what the rear ratio was, but we were cruising 70at 1800rpm on flat roads. Decent power, tried to put my foot into it a couple times but didn't want to run it hard with my buddy with me
It only had 7k miles on it so it was still tight and not fallng apart yet. But damn sure wouldn't trade it in for 7.3. I've towed his trailer with my truck and still have plenty hp left when I spool the turbo up. Got 8mpg btw. That kinda blows my impression and rumors I've heard of the Cummings gettin' 55 mpg while towing.
Amen on another Ford. I will not be getting one of the new Fords either. I work at a place that builds firetrucks, and we have to make them epa compliant. We are in the process of building one to meet 2010 with the urea fluid and that stuff is very costly right now. $23.00 a gallon, and truck has a 10 gal. tank.
I know where you work, right off I-12 past DS.I had a buddy that used to manage the production line and left after about 10mos...said the owner was a complete tool.
Wife and i are about to relocate to Folsom, right down the road.
I would see if there is a factory recall issue on that truck. With that kind of fuel mileage. Some of the dodges came from the factory with an E brake that is barely on. It causes drag and kills mileage. Dodge will realign the ebrake and fuel milage increases dramatically.
A guy that i work with has one of the new 6.7s. Been in and out of the dealer for fuel leaks and some sensor that makes it cut out, like a CPS. He's constantly complaining about that POS.
My wife's old 24V Cummins 3/4 ton CC 8ft bed would out tow our Ford ANY day. Even though it was a POS automatic that didn't shift well, the power from that Cummins puts our PSD to shame. Plus it could climb a 7% grade on it's own accelerating effortlessly w/o any sort of turbo surge. Her truck wasn't falling apart. It was a well built truck with a cheesy interior and uncomfortable seats, including a small back seat when compared to our Ford. I don't know anything about the new Cummins, but those 5.9L Cummins are damn good motors and IMHO far superior to the PSD, especially in stock form.

Maybe "your Ford" is a turd, every make has em
My friend has a 5.9 drw extended cab 8ft bed, he fantasizes about owning "my Ford"
We can agree to disagree, or at least agree that each has variable strengths and weaknesses.
I'm not sure any good can come out of this discussion. I've seen a million of these Powerstroke vs. Cummins threads...and you can talk yourselves in circles but the fact remains that when the dust settles, the only thing that will be left are hurt feelings.
yeah you are right Lisa, some people cant take constructive disagreements. I will never forget the reason I am a "Ford guy' to this day. (besides the obvious reason that Chevy fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down) One of my good buds called me one day to help him, he had broken down on the interstate towing a horse trailer. Which shouldn't be a reason at all b/c even PSD's break down. He had a, about a two yr old Dodge dually, four door, 4wd, loaded, the whole nine yards. So i went to go help him, took the trailer where it was going and came back for his Dodge. I got it runnin for him, turned out it was a clogged fuel filter that he hadn't changed in God's no how long.
So anyway, I drove his truck back home and he took my truck to the race and brought his trailer home. But on the way home, driving down the hwy, that ***!n' POS was the biggest rattle trap junk I have ever seen in my life. He bought it brand new and had only 60k miles on it. My God! if i hit a bump it felt like the whole truck was comin' apart. And don't get me started on the seats!!! felt like a cynder block wrapped in cardboard covered w/ leather. Right then and there i knew i could never own one.
He traded it in later for Chevy and hates it worse than the Dodge. THE END.

I don't think my truck is a turd. I just don't think it has the motor like the Cummins. I have to "mod" my truck so it will pull like her stock '04 Cummins 24V did and that's just fine. We didn't get another Dodge because it was like sitting in a torture chamber when driving her truck. Government Motors wasn't an option.
I test drove a mega cab with a hemi before I bought my truck. That think had a LOT of room in it.
I did leave that out!!! the Mega Cab was extremely cool...tons of leg room and a large back seat. I don't know though if i would like to sacrifice my 8ft bed though.
I think part of what gives the Dodge & Chevy guys a MPG & ET advantage might have something to do with the weight of the vehicles. IIRC our Fords run about 1100lbs heavier. ET's don't matter to me, but MPGs are..... and I'm getting there.
Lisa's got it 100% spot on. The only other thread that might be worse is the "gas vs. diesel" threads that pop up.
