When I was in high school in Mississippi, I would turn on my little red transistor radio in bed at night, and listen to The Wolfman on (if memory serves) XERB out of Del Rio, Texas. The transmitter was across the border in Mexico where there was no restriction on power output. He had a great R&B and soul format. Lightnin' Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williams, Howlin' Wolf, B. B. King, Jimmy Reed, Aretha Franklin, Etta James to name a few. One of his sponsers was Royal Crown Petroleum Jelly. And he would say he was sending out a 55 gallon drum of the stuff to so and so who was having a party somewhere. The guy has an incredible biography. I didn't know he was a white guy till American Graffiti.
