So I guess this extra heat under the hood could hurt the performace?
That is a subject of much debate. I am not saying Ford put the foil there for heat protection. I am saying the CAC system is there to reduce the charge air temperature and anything that aids that simply aids that. I have seen what heat soak did to my engine on the dyno. Not having an aftermarket intercooler, I am going to insulate my CAC tubes as my EGTs really aren't a problem in my application and how I use my truck.
What I need to decide is how much datalogging I want to do to prove this out.
So now after I rip all that crappy foil off they say not to?
Ive been reading here for a year or so and Ive seen tons of people talking about the "foil delete" and now Ive done it and they start saying not to do it .

Mike --> Do this. Log some data showing IAT & MAT, like you did a while back. Then go wrap your pipes, and do it again. To be fair, do it after the truck is fully warmed up, and try to make both runs around the same outside air temps/humidity. It won't be exact, but it should show any difference. Remember the graphs I posted back when we were talking about this before? If there is a significant difference, we should see it. Here is the graph I did before:
EDIT: So if there is a noticeable change, the "Difference" line will get higher because the MAT should get cooler. My prediction is that it will be a wash. Also, I can go check my other PC and see where I put the original spreadsheet if you want it, Mike.
Sorry, just saw this question. Yes, as you can see in the pics, the hot-side boots are blue, the cold-side are black (same down on the boots that connect the I/C to the tubes). The boots under the spider are orange.
I see my powr steerng pulley has been wearing on my pipe?
I should put something on it before it wears right through?
Yes. Mine was touching the PS pump where one of the lines attach, so I cut open a small section of heater hose and tie-wrapped it around the PS line, and left enough to overlap that connection.
But the actual pulley is touching?? You need to loosen the boots and re-orient the tube so it's away from it.

You are probably fine if you are going for looks and sound. Keep in mind, I am after .01HP on a dyno. That heat soak might have cost me that.

Be careful with that last .01 HP. Might be enough to send a rod flying...
EDIT: I would think a CAI (like Chris' home-brew job) would be worth more temp-wise than the tape on the pipes. Just a thought, looking at your IAT data.

Well, I am not in a hurry as I am not going on a dyno any time soon. Some sort of CAI is definitely a good option too.
