Not really, aklim. You pull the VB either way, and that = ATF shower...
The Tugger is ~$100 delivered, but the heavy duty kit is only $65. I would do it again in a heartbeat. What's $65 or $100 when you (might) be spending $4000?? There are more mods than just the Accumulator VB in both kits, BTW. It's actually a fairly substantial mod, and the tranny feels GREAT with them done.
True but when the VB is out, it is out. With the Transgo, you still have to have bits of it all over your table and hope you don't do something wrong otherwise you have the ATF shower again. It isn't so bad with the 4R100 since you get to drain quite a bit off but with my 700R4, I forgot to put the filter in. What a pain. Good thing I saw it on the table. You see, the O-ring holding it in didn't come out so I had to dig for it and after I got it done, I forgot about the filter and just put the pan back.
IIRC, there is also the inner parts of the trans that have a bunch of springs.
Is there any way to get gauges and a DP tuner cheaper--- does anyone sell used?
You can find them on some of the other forums in the classified section once in a while. Someone just sold there F5 on PSN a few weeks ago. Just need to be patient & keep your eyes open.

Unless you know the reputation of the seller, I would refrain. The circuit board is too exposed for my liking. Anything can happen and I generally don't like to buy electronics used.
All this is only up to and beyond the point when I pull my F5 for an F6. While I am selling, buy used.
Mod'ing the VBs was actually the easy part. You do have to pull both the Main & Accumulator VB, and the solenoid pack out though. But like I said, you ended up with a more completely mod'ed tranny. Either way, it's up to the individual, IMHO. I enjoyed learning how the tranny works, and I like mod'ing stuff on my own. I always recommend that a person that doubts their mechanical skills go with the VB only. Super-easy...
Having the ability to have your tuner custom and live tuned to your truck is worth a lot as each truck may be a little different in some way. That could affect the way the tuner responds to your truck, depending on what you have done previously to your truck. That's where DP or TW are the way to go. Tony Wildman live tuned my son's truck after repeated tries through the mail. Turned out that the mods and rebuild of the transmission greatly affected the response from the tuner. It seems that finding the right combination through the mail was difficult or may have been impossible.

I seem to recall that Tony also dropped what he was doing when phone support didn't help and drove across the state line with a spare injector when your son was stranded. You're not going to find that kind of commitment to the customer from an off the shelf tuner company.
In case your son hasn't heard, Pete now has filter covers with Tony's logo on them.
Yes, Chris, you are right about the "roadside service". I apologize to Tony for forgetting that in my previous post. My son and his wife really felt helpless until contacting Tony. Also, White Buffalo called and offered help even though he was an hour away. There is no way you would get that kind of treatment from the big business boys. That's why FTE is the first and finest!
farmboy has a filter cover his Mom made that looks like Pete's but no fancy logo on it. Maybe his wife can do some painting on it.
After Reading All Your Replies It Seems Dp Tuner Is It...but I Dont Want A Chip Right Now, I Want A Reflash For Easy Removal(truck Still Under Wty) So I See On Dp's Web Site They Sell The Sct Tuner...any Comments On This Product Would Be Helpful.

Maybe you should do your sig here so we know what we are working on.
When is the warranty up? 5 yr or 5K so even if you have an 03, it should soon be up.
As far as warranty goes, there is only one way to take care of it. Buy a separate PCM. You see, each time you load and unload a program, the PCM keeps a log so they can tell. Put a chip in and they can tell. If this were 04 and I owned an 03 truck, I would get a core PCM from jody and run the tunes there so I can switch back if necessary.

Sorry to hijack, but I thought only the 6.0 PCM's could tell if there had been a tune installed using the Ford special laptop (regional guy, not dealer level)? Did this capability come out for all the 03's?
The computer access port (J3) is about the easiest thing you'll ever access on your Superduty truck. A "chip" is about the easiest thing to install and remove when the PCM box is modified correctly....far less time consuming than hooking up the programmer, erasing, turning the key on and off 12 times (burning up your glow plug relay in the process) and then loading the stock tune back in.
With either one, you'll end up with a P0603.......except with a programmer, you can usually erase it. But most techs don't know or don't care about P0605....because a P0603 can be set just by unhooking the batteries.

Cody, I thought the P0603 was the common one with the chip/tuner, and the 0605 only showed up sometimes? Do I have this backwards?

IIRC, it was on the my 01 too. With the Ford interface, I thought they could see how many times my PCM was reprogrammed.

At the dealer level, or only by the Ford regional guy with the special laptop? Gonna have to find someone smarter than me to ask to find out for sure, but I thought I read it was only on the 6.0. I wonder if Adrain could tell us?
