Finally had to replace the Auto Hubs with Manual. I have a '99 DRW (build date 11/98) and the auto hubs finally bit the dust. At first I tried the Warn Premiums, but the diameter of the caps were too large and would catch on the bore diameter of the wheel spacer.
So I then went to MileMarker, part #449SS, and they were a perfect fit.
When I first bought the truck, the ESOF gave me trouble, but after learning how to use it, it's never failed me. I didn't mind the auto hubs either, but the Ford dealership wanted $295.00 each, which would be over $600.00 after taxes. I bought the MleMarkers for $170.00 for the set. And they're stainless steel with all steel parts. I'm very satisfied.
One thing I would encourage anyone else to do before installing aftermarket locking hubs on dually trucks, after removing the OE hubs, take some steel wool or fine emory cloth and clean the surface of the hub housing so that the o-ring on the new hubs will seat properly. Other than that, just remove and replace. It's a one-beer-job...
Sorry, forgot to mention I live in Texas. We buy beer by the kegs.
What happened with the auto hubs? Did they stop latching ?
They would lock great, just wouldn't unlock. Both were sluggish, but the driver's side had a broken o-ring under the dial. I could have cleaned them if that was all it was, but they (Ford) don't sell repair parts for the hubs, or at least that's what they told me.
