So I think I have narrowed my problem to the TPS. When the truck cuts out I continue to hold the throtle at the position it was in whrn the engine died and continue to coast down the road. When I let the throttle up until the idle validation switch clicks on the throttles return to idle the engine restarts. If I continue to hold the throttle down the engine will not restart on its own. So I think I either need an idle validation switch or a new TPS assembly. Just wanted to confirm with you guys before I go out and buy one. Also has anyone purchased one lately, if so what did it cost?
Does it set a CEL. Either way I think your right that you need a pedal assembly. The IVS and TPS aren't available separately so you will need a whole pedal
They run about $220 Powerstrokeshop.com
No CEL. I am pretty sure it works, since it lites up when you turn the key on and then goes out after starting. Tim did you read the post I put up last night on the other weird things this truck is doing? I am not sure if they are related to the TPS issue, but they happen at the same time.
i beleive dorman now makes an affordable pesal assembly, or at least the switches and tps's for our trucks. i cant recall exactly. also are you sure its not the cps cutting out the engine and the fact that the tc clutch is still engaged allows the motor to restart when the cps kicks back in?
Joe, I had the CPS recall done just a couple of months ago. Also, no matter what I do to the truck when the engine dies it will not restart until I let off the throttle and trip the IVS. Also since my truck is a manual so, as long as I am coasting the engine is turning. I have a spare CPS from IH its a grey one I don't recall if that is the new one or not. I suppose I could throw it in and see what happens.
