While removing my turbo I couldn't figure out how to release the EBPV linkage from the turbo pedestal. Of course I came to FTE for help. It was so simple once I new what needed to be done.
This is the sliding clip that holds the valve actuating rod to the back pressure valve tang. Clip is on the underside of the flat end of rod. It is under and at the back of the turbo and cannot be seen without a mirror. Just feel for and simply slide it back and let the rod drop down or push it down and off the pin. I used needle nose vice grips to slide the clip back.
Robin,
Thanks for the pictures. It will help those who have not done this to have a better understanding of how the clip releases.
Sorry, I can't rep you for this. Still on a 'time out'.

To Mod the ped., cut the arm off with grinder, sawzall-metal blade, or hack saw. Pull out lock washer from otherside and remove everything from the inside. Replace cover and lock washer. Seal off hole from arm and done. Will fill back up with oil to lube turbo still. Don't forget to replace O-rings when reinstalling ped. and turbo. Most common leaks are right between ped. and block.
Nice pics Robin! Mine is going to have to come out soon as it's leaking just like yours looks like yours. I'm going to try and hold off till I get my van turbo rebuilt and the non EBPV pedestal.

Thanks Ryan. I never had a real oil leak but the back of the pedastal was pretty grimey. I'm also upgrading to a new turbo. Nothing wrong with the old one other than it is and early 99. I'm also upgrading to late 99 3" plenums, spider, non-EBPV pedastal and bellowed up-pipes. A work in progress. All the old stuff is out. Hope to get the new installed in the next few days. Do to inexperience I'm really slow at this kind of work. Taking a couple of days off because my back and shoulders are sore.
