Thanks Jorge. I gave one to my oldest stepson when he was in college. he would come home 2 or 3 weekends a month. It gave him some reassurance that his phone would always be charged.
I have a cell phone charger for the truck.
I don't think laptop/wireless internet will be an option for me. My laptop has a dead Ion battery and it would just be too much of a PITA to try and deal with it.
Jorge that trip calculator thing is handy, thanks for posting! I set sail tomorrow AM for our new house (hopefully the house and not a motel...). If the price of diesel was lower here at home, I could drive straight through without fueling once (love my huge azz tank). 585 miles... yay.

Good luck Chase! Maybe you should collect a few phone numbers for folks in your general area for just-in-case purposes.
NP, I have used with much success. Its pretty useful even on short trips within 100mi or so from home. I have skipped stations b4 hoping this thing was acurate....guess what it is. I passed a station i thought was pretty good based on the trip planner and gone to where they said it was cheaper and I saved. Enjoy.
I agree with Travis there Lisa. Maybe you should get a list of phone numbers of members along the way so that IF you have a problem then you'll have help just a phone call away. This is my intention in a few weeks when I go to Florida for Thanksgiving.
Where about in FL are you headed? Ive traveled I-95 from MD to Fl too many time in the past year, I can try to help you out If you have any questions along that strech of road.

I got one in my truck too, I always seem to use it for somthing on long trips.
My truck is on the efficient side, even for a lifted 4x4. $150-$180 is probably about right. I've made the drive from Denver to Cedar Rapids before. The longest .
I assume you'll be pulling an enlosed trailer and that will void most of the efficiency
Don't know how long your trip is but on my 750 mi trips between houses my truck takes 25 extra gallon pulling an enclosed trailer loaded or empty,so I alway figure 2 extra fuel stops to get the cheapest fuel. One stop would work but the stayions in my travel are about 180 miles apart and I cant skip one confortably
If your serpentine is more than 4 years old,,,, I'd put the new one on and throw the old one in the toolbox as a spare, that one belt runs everything. I'd be doing a tire inspection, including the spare, tread depth, pressure, etc.... if they are weatherchecked and you are pulling a heavy trailer start to worry. check that your trailer ball is torqued, safety chain mounts are sound, all trailer lights work and the brakes function. An oil change off interval is probably not required, especially in the temps you'll likely be in. If the tranny fluid is the right color and no function issues on shift I'd probably leave it alone until after you move, It made it this far, it'll make it 850 miles to Iowa. Check your washer fluid, brake fluid, fill her up and let the big dog eat. Nebraska used to be fairly serious about speeding fines however....and if you like taxidermy and outdoorsy stuff make a scheduled stop in Sydney, Nebraska at Cabela's world headquarters. Its a cool time if you have never been there.

I'm due for an oil change so I do need to get that done beforehand. My belt is relatively new. I have a used belt as a spare just in case.
Is there any reason I should be concerned about doing the tranny fluid/filter beforehand? Why wait until Iowa?
Are you due for a tranny fluid change, Lisa? If so do it. If not, wait. I think that was his point...
I put Mobil1 syn in mine (READ: EXPENSIVE!!) so at 30k from the change, I'll take a sample and see if it's time. I'm hearing that we should get close to twice the normal interval out of full syn ATF in these as long as it stays cool.

Well, when I bought the truck the original owner had just completed a tranny flush/filter, and I have put approx 20,000 on the truck since then..so it might not be a bad idea.
How much air pressure is in your spare tire right now? Do you have a 4-way and jack to change a flat, or are you relying on the stock jack? What kind of trailer are you pulling, and if you have to leave it on the side of the road temporarily, how do you plan on locking it down? Have you considered joining AAA or something similar that would cover towing (including the trailer)?
Being prepared is a good thing, but don't worry too much. I make long trips in my truck all the time.

I have a 4 way, yes, in my toolbox. I also have spare lug nuts, I learned a powerful lesson with that one once.
I have a hi-jack, is always in the back of my truck. Stock jack wont do anything for me my truck sits too high. I still have it though in case I need to use it to solve a problem of any sort.
Spare tire was just checked last time I had to go to the tire shop to plug one of my tires. Less than a month ago.
Trailer will be a rental unfortunately, and will be an enclosed unit 12x6x6 or something like that....so if something happens to the trailer, repair/towing will be on their bill not mine.
