another 'flutter" question

Hi all,
bear with me i'm new to the ford world. I have an 01 f350 4x4 v-10 auto with 4:30 gears and 40k on it. i just baught the truck last week and i noticed today around 2000-2300 rpm a weird noise thats sounds like an air compressor relief valve popping off when the take is overfull. it does it intermitently I watched monstas video but i couldnt tell for sure. does this sound like a flutter noise to you? or should i be worried about blowing a plug?

help!

thanks

Also check the inspection plate cover on the transmission bell housing. It's in the front of the tranny on the bottom, 2 bolts. You might need to put a foam gasket or something similar between the plate and transmission. Sometimes bending it slightly will alleviate it as well.

Also check and make sure the heat shields on your exhaust up by the Y pipe aren't loose. I had to put hose clamps around all of mine, the welds broke and they made all kinds of noise.

i'll second that idea............

mine sounded the same way, i took it off, put a slight bend in it and put it back on. when you put it in a bind it won't make that pressure relief sound, it just needs alittle tension on it.

but if that's not it, double check your plugs, just in case.

What this sounds like to me is the original flutter caused by the rams horn Y pipe that was installed in the 1999, 2000 and early 2001 trucks. It's a exhaust resonance that comes from the right side of the motor. I had mine fixed under warranty, they replaced the y pipe with the newer version Y pipe and extension pipe.

Somebody posted photos of the two styles of pipes but I can't remember who it was. What you would want is a y pipe from a late 2001 to 2004 I think that you would also have to replace pipe between the Y pipe and converter.
