Hey guys im need some help ive been told alot about which tires are good for daily driving and off road but what do you guys think i need a good tire for my crew cab good for off road terrain and doesnt wear fast i always ground hawgs were but im probably wrong bias ply tires dont bother me so what do you guys think?thanks...mike
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Dec-02 AT 08:50 AM (EST)]your going to want the bfg allterrain ko. i have them on my truck. they have a strong sidewall, ride great on the street, good offroad, good in snow. they do alright in mud also. they are a very aggressive looking tire and can last you 60 thousand miles if you take care of them. if you prefer a more aggressive tire than you will want to go with the bfg mud terrain km. they ride good on the street, great in the mud, ok in the snow, have the same 3 ply sidewall that the all terrain has, and they really look good. you may not get as many miles out of the mud terrain than the allterrain and maybe a little harsher ride. your going to have to understand that these tires are top of the line and arent cheap. but one set of these tires will last you a long time and you will be happy. do it right the first time, it will be cheaper in the long run. by the way what size tires do you want to run?
See my thread "New BFG's rock". Also check my gallery. This is the 3rd set of BFG muds I have gotten. 2 sets on the Ranger one on the F250. The ones on the ranger lasted 45K, and could have gone longer, but wanted to have better off-road ability so I got new ones.

LOL
Pretty funny. We humans are certainly opinionated.
Like you I am not a fan of the BFG tires. And money is not the issue. To each his/her own, whatever works.
Several months ago I purchased a set of new GoodYear Wrangler MTR tires, 285/75R16. I have only had them out once (I use other tires and wheels for the road) so I really do not have much of a report. So far I have liked what I have seen. I have a friend that used the old GoodYear MT and has been running the new GoodYear MTR for quite sometime. He swears by the new GoodYear MTR. His tires are used for off road only (jeeping) and goes to places like Moab, Utah. All of the magazine articles that I have seen have been very positive. Good Luck.

I think sometimes people get a little too defensive of their opinions. You were going against the crowd which can be difficult. I used to be very defensive to other peoples opinions but I changed my ways and am more respectful. I think you're opionion was very valuable, however, I think one of the problems that made the thread worse then it had to be, was the fact that you ran on the old BFG muds and I believe the other guys ran on the new ones, as am I. The new ones are much better than the old ones, but I would agree with your opionion on the old ones, they weren't that great. Everyone just has to make sure they know what the person is going to do with their tires before we cast out our opinions on what that person should run.

i heard alot of good comments about COOPER DISCOVERER AT. i got mine a week ago and am very happy so far. rides very quietly for such an aggresive tread. i haven't driven in snow yet, but people praise its winter capability.
I can vouch for the Goodyear MTR's. My friend had them on his Chebby in a 315 x something size. They were excellent in mud of course, but they also did extremely well in the sand, which is surprising considering the larger voids in the tire. He never had any problems with blowouts or flats and they lasted forever, and he drove the heck out of 'em. Only problem is they're a little on the high side of the price range.
Well I missed the 'Mud tire' thread. Maybe a good thing.
I too am trying to get some opinions on some off-road tires I'm looking at. One is the 35x12.5x16.5 BFG M/T KM. the other is the 36x14.5x16.5 Ground Hawgs II radials.
This is for my '73 F-250. it does get driven off road but 85% street driving.
The BFG I've heard many good things, but I've heard very little about the on street manners of the Ground Hawgs Radials. The Hawgs off-road I've heard are great.
