Off Road Tires

What does everyone think is the best off road/mud terrain tire. I am looking for something with some drivability though, the truck still has to be a daily driver. Sorry if I forgot any brands in the poll, but these were the 6 that I found first. Also, if you guys know a link to any tires that I didn't list that'd be great. I have a set of 30x9.5 Cooper Discovery STT's right now and think they are pretty good.

I'm a big fan of interco tires, for drivability I like the swamper radials or ssr's, the ssr style are reletivly quiet for and aggressive tire, now for all out wheeling with no regaurds to tire wear or noise the boggers are the way to go,

These are the tires I bought for my Ford.

I put two on the back only (2wd) because I desparately needed better traction in mud but on the highway at 50 mph the truck at 8000lb was almost uncontrollable, went back and had the same tires put on the front and the handling was much better.

I like them, aggressive grip but not too knobby for more road life.

Yep, Interco Tire Corporation. Ran 'em since I owned my first rig back in '93.

Interco Swampers. I can't believe you forgot them on your poll! For a more street driven vehicle you can get the radials as well so they'll last a little while.

Thanks guys, I think I've made my mind up and am gonna go with the Interco Truxs STS All Terrain's. I don't want a crazy SSR type tire because I don't plan on going off road very much, but still want a big tire, so these seem to be the choice for me.

If you plan to play in the mud don't get the STS. They're good in sand and okay on the street but that's about it. Their voids are too small to clear mud quick so they'll pack full really fast. The Trxus MT would be alright or the SSR. What size are you thinking of going with?

EDIT Btw, your post originally asked about the best offroad mud tire that was still streetable. Now it sounds like you're looking for more of a street tire that can sometimes be used in mud. If this is the case get the BFG's. If you want real offroad performance stick with the Swampers or MT's.

now i feel a little foolish after checking out that site, i never new interco was the company that made swampers and boggers and such, ive always been a fan of swampers, i really like the look of those IROKS, what tire was it on there that came in a 49", that would be killer........but with my budget im on my BFG's for now!!

Ivan, your right, I am looking for more of a street tire than is okay in the mud than a mud tire thats okay on the street, but I am looking for one that has a good balance of both. Although I won't be in the mud very often, so I want a tire that is better on road than off. Hence, I don't think I need a swamper or something along those lines. Thanks though.

For you, I would recommend any of the ones on your poll. Just pick the cheapest. I had BFGs and got 2 sidewall flats. One was a stick about the diameter of a pencil Considering they are supposed to be all that (and a bag of chips) they should hold up better. That is why I say the cheapest. As far as BFGs driveability, great. They rode well, and I was cruising towards about 50,000 miles when I got rid of the truck. Now I have the interco SSRs, and have never looked back. They tear it up compared to the BFG

Firestone Destination A/T or M/T. I have some friends that run on the M/T's and they love them. I decided to go with the A/T cause it's not as aggressive and I didn't really need a mud tire. These are some excellent tires imo.

I just have to say that the MT Baja Claws are the poo. Those things go anywhere, look cool, give a good ride, last longer and are quieter than boggers and are directional, with means when you go in the sand, you can swap them from right to left and they act like paddle tires. Good for rock crawling too. Performance in the mud is comperable to the boggers too.
