Inside the motor you will find 3 nylon? type material cylinders that provide shock adsorbing on the motor gears. These fail in time. The crunch noise is the particles moving around inside the gear. I normally buy extra parts through corvette part suppliers as most of these parts are generic internally. Sometimes you might find a kit with just the main drive gear. My last find was at O'Riley. The repair is to remove the motor, open the gear train and replace the broken cylinders. However if you have run it too long the main/bull gear will be stripped and have to be replaced. These are very hard to find and you might be forced to replace the motor.

Just had my driver's side regulator replaced yesterday. They should have done the passenger's but "couldn't replicate the problem". I had the service guy listen a little closer with some pursuasion and he agreed finally agreed the passenger one needs to be replaced as well. Just turned 15k miles.
