My 2002 Explorer rear drivers side window made a noise like something has been crushed in there and now the window won't go up or down. I have it pushed up right now...but with winter on the way this needs to be resolved. This noise or crushing sound happened when the windows was trying to be opened to the down position. As soon as I heard that stange noise I tried to get the window back up using the window button but it stayed opened. I managed to get the window up by hand...what could the problem be and is it a costly job for repair. I've also heard that those auto glass repair shops can repair them too....your advice will be greatly appreciated....thanks...
Same think happened to mine, but neighbor kid was "helping" it go down. I took the door panel off and the motor has a cable that runs around in a circle and winds up on a pulley. There was NO WAY to put it back together and make it work. I bought a new unit on e-bay and installed it - complete. Not too bad of a job, took an hour or two. Couple tight fittings and 2-3 plugs it install. Will see if i can find a link.
Around here the O'Reilly Auto Parts chain stocks a fair assortment of new aftermarket window regulators for a fraction of the cost of an OEM version as well. I assumed for the price I would need to swap over the motors, but they even came with new window motors. If you have this chain in your area it may be worth seeing if they have one in stock and do a price comparison.
